Interior Design Project in Streatham - London

A casual yet elegant home for a dynamic couple

Overview

The overall goal for this project was to reimagine a tired 1920’s apartment into a modern space which the clients could be proud to come home to. The existing space had become cluttered with mismatched ‘hand me down’ furniture and insufficient storage. The overall available space was being underutilised and poorly allocated.

DESIGN APPROACH

With subtle Art Deco inspired detailing, understated glamour and delicate masculine elements; the apartment was transformed into a sophisticated yet liveable home.

The living room was reorientated to make better use of the space, and bespoke built-in bookcases and storage units were added. New comfortable furniture, artwork and various lighting options produced an adaptable and sociable space.

A built-in banquette dining area was created in the existing under-used bay window. To this, a round marble dining table and bouclé and rattan dining chairs were added.

The guest room and full-time home office was reimagined with a wall of floor to ceiling storage. A murphy bed replaced the seldom used guest bed to help open-up the space. A large built-in walnut desk and open storage system was added for the perfect working space.

The primary bedroom was given a new lease of life with extended headboard, new lighting options and an enveloping colour palette. Custom built blackout shutters were added to the windows in the bedrooms, an important detail for the clients.

Key Elements

The forgotten central hallway was re-imagined as a glamorous moment, with a dramatic painted ceiling, moody wall lights and stylish yet practical hall table.

TESTIMONIAL

“Tom somehow managed to intuit precisely what we wanted even though we could barely express it ourselves. Tom is a rare blend of practicality and creativity; quiet efficiency and unflustered problem solving paired with style, invention and complete clarity of vision. A joy to work with at every step”.
