Interior Design Project in Earlsfield - London

A warm and casual retreat for a hard-working couple

Overview

This client’s new home was in desperate need of modernisation and had some age-related structural issues and poor access/relation to the roof terrace. The above shop maisonette also suffered from a cramped kitchen, no dining area and a general lack of functional storage. But it did have some lovely traditional character and beautiful evening light.

DESIGN APPROACH

The design concept for this renovation was to create a comfortable and modernly classical home with a warm light colour palette and moments of deeper autumnal colours. Filled with delicate pattern and cosy textures.

Having fixed the structural issues and upgrading all the electrics, plumbing etc. we moved on to the pretty! The kitchen, originally a bathroom and kitchen had limited access to the roof terrace. It was transformed into a light filled room by relocating the bathroom upstairs and opening up the space. A wall of pantry storage offsets the run of lower units opposite in a striking green. The whole design used a Victorian aesthetic as its inspiration speaking to the age of the property.

Just off the kitchen a bespoke banquette was created with antique dining table, providing an inviting and casual dining area, perfect for morning coffee or informal suppers with friends. Pendants and wall lights were added to create different moods as needed, and a selection of mis-matched cushions for added comfort.

Upstairs, the bedroom became a warm and comfortable sanctuary with a bespoke headboard, and a soft, natural colour palette enhances the sense of restfulness. Storage was added with deep under eaves wardrobes and a pair of wide chest of drawers as bedside units.

Key Elements

The living room, though bright in daylight transforms in to a welcoming cocoon in the evening, with multiple light sources creating mood and glow. This casual yet refined space is filled with personal mementos and a mixture of new snug seating and heirloom antique pieces. A large bookcase with closed storage below was created to accommodate a large book collection.

TESTIMONIAL

“Every detail in our newly refurbished home is a testament to Tom’s skill, patience, and dedication. From the outset, Tom took the time to listen to us, learning about our preferences and the way we live, which truly set the tone for the entire project. Not only did he respect the character of our Victorian property but also created a beautiful and relaxing space that we are proud to call home”.
